Light Peak: The plot thins
Glad I waited a bit bit before posting on in Intel's newly announced and much ballyhooed optical interconnect technology for PCs, Light Peak.
Why, say you? Because, at least according to a recent (suitably well-annotated) Wikipedia entry on the technology, what was initially trumpeted as something of a thick plot surrounding the technology has thinned considerably:
"Light Peak technology was demonstrated at the Intel Developer Forum on September 23, 2009 and Intel hopes to start shipping Light Peak in 2010. Shortly after the presentation, technology blog Engadget reported that Light Peak had been developed by Intel in collaboration with Apple Inc. However, this claim was later refuted by industry sources cited in a CNET News report. According to Intel, the companies that will produce Light Peak technology include Foxconn, Foxlink, Avago, SAE, IPtronics, Corning, Elaser, and Ensphere."
Good news for the interconnect industry on the whole. And perhaps a bit of a booya moment for an apparently avid faction of "tech conspiracy" types working on the Internet?
