WELCOME TO INTERCONNECTION WORLD

The UK Website Processingtalk recently reported that Siemens Milltronics has released a book titled Catching the Process Fieldbus: An Introduction to Profibus, written by James Powell and Henry Vandelinde. Geared toward beginners, the book addresses and seeks to make accessible the combination of fieldbuses, software packages and media that define industrial communications.

According to the report, as distinct from a Profibus “how-to manual,” the book instead lays the groundwork for communication design, providing information for those curious to explore, and motivation for those determined to go further. Topics discussed include: bus operations, protocol details, physical layers and networks, network-design basics, installation tips and suggestions, commissioning, maintenance, plant-asset management and troubleshooting.

A recent Youtube video featuring co-author James Powell explains how Profibus can reduce the cost of ownership of installed process-plant instrumentation; this video was also the topic of Powell’s presentation at the Profibus and Profinet User Conference, held June 16-17 near Stratford upon Avon, UK. Delegates to the Profibus conference and workshop event were presented with a free copy of the book.
